With Americans anticipating higher stress than usual this year, it makes sense that the number of hours spent on self-care has increased.
A December 2022 survey from the American Psychiatric Association showed that more than one in four people said they expected to experience more stress at the start of 2023, compared to 2022. That was up from one in five in 2021. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization found that, on average, individuals are spending 8,700 hours a year on self-care.
