The Glossy guide to what’s in and out for 2022

Who could have predicted that 2021 would prove to be just as, well, unpredictable as 2020?

Naively, at the end 2020, Team Glossy didn’t think twice before making our annual list calling out the industry trends set to be “in” and “out,” according to us. So, when looking back, it came as no surprise to find that we didn’t exactly hit the nail on the head. In some cases, what we called “in” proved “out” (linear TV – compared to buzzy Twitch, anyway). And some of our “out” trends managed to redeem themselves within months. (Think: wholesale partners, which stopped canceling orders and started placing them.) But there were some bold calls that rang true – and that we foresee continuing to trend throughout 2022. (Resale is decidedly still “in,” for example.)

Indeed, we’ve again decided to place bets on trends, under the hopeful assumption that the year ahead will include both rhyme and reason. Here’s what will be “in” and “out” in 2022, as we see it now. But no promises.
