Inspired by his late friend Talia Joy, Patrick Starr started doing makeup tutorials on YouYube in 2013. Almost a decade later, Starr is known as the first male Filipino-American beauty influencer. Growing up and not seeing anyone like him represented in beauty made Starr want to be the representation for others. His makeup brand, One Size Beauty, prides itself on lifting the voices of the unheard in beauty and beyond, and focuses on radical expression. Its products are best described as elevated essentials.
Who: Patrick Starrr (One/Size)
Platforms: Instagram, YouTube, TikTok
What are you known for & how did you get your start?
My YouTube channel really popped off when I was introduced to another YouTuber in Orlando, Talia Joy. She had around a million subscribers at the time, and I had, like, 13. Talia passed away in 2013 of a rare nerve cancer, and the last thing on her feed was, ‘TaliaJoy likes Patrick Starrr’s video.’ Talia was an inspiration to so many people and millions of people shared condolences on her channel. My friend said that Talia left me a gift on this earth when she passed, and I still get emotional thinking about it.
Now, I would say I am known for being the first male, Filipino-American beauty influencer. I launched my YouTube channel in 2013 because I didn’t see anyone who looked like me in the beauty industry. I think my passion for makeup and beauty has really resonated with people. Since 2013, I’ve gained a larger following and have had the opportunity to do makeovers on some of my icons, like Paris Hilton, Katy Perry and Tyra Banks.

Why did you decide to bring a brand into this crowded marketplace?
I wanted to develop a makeup brand that combines function with fashion, [through] essential, everyday products that are elevated and fun for anyone to use, from beginners to professionals. From a messaging perspective, I wanted to create a brand where everyone, regardless of who you are or what you look like, feels welcome and celebrated for their individuality and expression. Makeup is a ONE/SIZE fits all!
What makes the brand different?
My goal for the brand was to welcome everyone’s makeup journey, from the drag queen to the pageant princess to the makeup chameleons. Since we launched, ONE/SIZE has been redefining beauty by highlighting the voices of the unheard and making space for everyone in our movement for radical expression and self-love.
