Kanye West has been dropped by Adidas.
On Tuesday morning, just two weeks after Adidas announced its lucrative deal with West was under review, the company ended the nearly 10-year-old partnership.
West has been on a tear with a series of controversies. He publicly threatened and mocked his brand partners at his Paris Fashion Week event, where models wore “White Lives Matter” T-shirts. But last week, West’s behavior escalated to antisemitism when he made bigoted statements about Jewish people. Some of those statements were public, but others were recorded in unaired segments of an interview he did with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson.
Soon, West’s closest allies and collaborators dropped association with him. Balenciaga, which had collaborated with West on a collection a month ago, said it would have nothing more to do with him. Anna Wintour and Vogue, once part of West’s inner circle, made a similar decision.
Without Balenciaga, Wintour, Vogue and Adidas, West is left with few allies in fashion. In the last few months, West said several times that his goal was to be independent. He seems to have gotten his wish.
